Defending the conservation area status

Deptford High Street, St Paul’s and Creekside conservation areas are represented on Lewisham’s Amenity Society Panel by the Deptford Society. The panel is convened by the council’s planning department to formally review and comment on planning applications in conservation areas across the borough.

In this context, the particular aims of the Deptford Society are to promote good urban design, encourage sensitive restoration and to support modern interventions wherever they show promise of becoming high-quality architecture.

Deptford has a unique quality and character; its rich history is evident through the wide variety of buildings and references to its cultural and industrial past. This character is at risk and the Deptford Society wants to ensure it is preserved in an appropriate and sensitive way.
